Verification of Some Weather Elements Forecasts from BSC-DREAM8b V2 Model

Abstract The aim of this study is to verify 2-meter temperature and mean sea level pressure forecasts from BSC-DREAM8B V2.0 model, which a short-term numerical forecasting model against observed data the Iraqi Meteorological Organization & Seismology constitution modelled (ERA-Interim) reanalysis European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) period 1-3 June 2012 four selected stations in Iraq, they are Mosul, Baghdad, Rutba Basra represent northern, central, western southern Iraq respectively by using some statistical methods including Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Bias (BE) Correlation Coefficient (R). results showed that worked well representing daily variation with relatively good compatibility ERA-I data, however, latter lower absolute error rates. two highest rate Baghdad station whereas BSC values different predicted were overestimated all both models except where underestimated value. As surface at level, its ability simulate change consistency few hetopascal as error. Both stations, thus, better simulating low elevated regions compared ERA-Interim vice versa.
